Biography
Richard "Dick" Bogue, former chairman of the National Safe Boating Council died on December 6 in Oxford, CT. The cause was heart failure. He was 77. Bogue joined Underwriters Laboratories in 1951 and spent a career working on projects to protect and ensure the safety of consumers. As an electrical engineer, he pioneered safety standards in electrical appliances. As a direct result of his work, all plugs now have built in safety features that prevent shock and burns. Later, his attention was turned to safety in boating and he contributed to the standards in personal floatation devices (PFD's) and in the writing of boating safety regulations. Born and raised in New Rochelle, NY, he was married for over fifty years to Janet, who died in August. With a lifelong interest in music and singing, he has sung in many choirs and was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Chorus in Oxford, CT, He is survived by four children and seven grandchildren, all of whom play a musical instrument. Funeral Services will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Friday, December 12 at 10 am. Burial will be held in spring of 2004 in New North Cemetery.
