The Caretaker was Pinter's sixth major work, and it was the piece that launched the playwright into commercial success.  Set in an apartment the play tells the story of three characters, two roommate/brothers and a tramp who comes to stay with them, who become entangled in a psychological web of power, allegiance, innocence, and corruption.

The show premiered in London's West End in April 1960, and has become one of Pinter's most frequently performed plays. This was Roundabout's third production of The Caretaker.
