Roundabout Theatre Company mounted Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac (with a translation by Brian Hooker; adapted by Frank Langella) at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Criterion Center, with first preview on October 29, 1997, opening night December 8, and closing on January 25, 1998.

Directed by Frank Langella with set design by James Noone, costume design by Carrie Robbins, lighting design by Marc B. Weiss, sound design by Laura Grace Brown, fight direction by J. Steven White and prosthetics design by Matthew W. Mungle.

Marcus Chait played the part of Christian, Terry Alexander played the part of Ragueneau, Teri Lamm played the part of Lise, George Morfogen played the part of Le Bret, Allison Mackie played the part of Roxane, Mikel Sarah Lambert played the part of Marguerite, Shawn Elliott played the part of DeGuiche, Armand Schultz played the part of Valvert, Adam LeFevre played the part of Montfleury, Frank Langella played the part of Cyrano, Rod McLachlan played the part of Carbon, Brian Keane played the part of Priest, and Jeffrey Cox played the part of Soldier. Understudies: Ray Virta, Timothy Wheeler, Teri Lamm, Brian Keane, Jeffrey Cox.  
 

Edmond Rostand (1868-1918) was a French playwright whose work, Cyrano de Bergerac, was a major success and remains one of the most widely performed plays due to its romantic ideas about individuality, inner beauty versus external beauty,and the notion of the "soul" or the existence of a heightened inner life in human beings separate from the physical, base world. The character Cyrano was based on a real person, Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac, a swordsman and poet with an oversized nose, from 17th century France.  

Production files span two Hollinger boxes containing 15 folders, with 2 playbills. The collection contains management files, script, performance reports, casting session, opening, press, and selections of materials detailing the artistic vision for the play (costume, set and sound design documentation).

Photograph file contains black and white prints, select color prints, black and white contact sheets of production stills, black and white contact sheets from opening night, and select color slides.

Marketing files contain artwork mock ups. 

Corresponding electronic file contains scanned playbill, digital photographs, scanned press clippings, show art, scanned education guide, and a production memo extracted from stage management floppy disc.
