Roundabout Theatre Company staged Beth Henley's Impossible Marriage at the Criterion Center, Laura Pels Theatre, with first preview on September 17, 1998, opening night on October 15, 1998 and closing January 3, 1999.

Directed by Stephen Wadsworth with set design by Thomas Lynch, costume design by Martin Pakledinaz, lighting design by Peter Kaczorowski, and sound design by Dan Wojnar.

Daniel London played the role of Sidney Lunt, Holly Hunter played the role of Floral Whitman, Lois Smith played the role of Kandall Kingsley, Jon Tenney played the role of Jonsey Whitman, Gretchen Cleevely played the role of Pandora Kingsley, Alan Mandell played the role of Reverend Jonathan Larence, and Christopher McCann played the role of Edvard Lunt. Understudies: Brenda Currin, Kevin Hogan, Monique Vukovic and Leo Kittay.

Beth Henley is a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright from Mississippi who writes about universal human experiences as seen through unusual Southern characters. Impossible Marriage received it's New York premiere at Roundabout's Laura Pels Theatre and as with earlier plays was written specifically for actress Holly Hunter. In a 1986 interview, Henley is quoted as saying "I like people. I don't see them as anything to make fun of. They concern, amaze and bewilder me" (Pachecho, Daily News, 1986).

Collection consists of two Hollinger boxes including management and stage documentation. Set, lighting, and costume design notes are present.
